Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Sourcing Leadership:
Lead the sourcing team in identifying, evaluating, and selecting suppliers for a diverse range of engineering components, including iron & steel castings, electrical laminations, and other mechanical and electrical products.
Develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with the company’s business objectives, ensuring the supply of high-quality materials at competitive prices.
Lead the negotiation and execution of long-term contracts, purchase agreements, and supplier relationships to secure favorable terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
2. Team Leadership and Management:
Manage and mentor a team of sourcing professionals, ensuring high levels of performance, collaboration, and accountability.
Oversee the sourcing operations in multiple cities across India, ensuring consistency in sourcing strategies and processes.
Establish performance metrics for the sourcing team and ensure the team meets targets for cost savings, supplier performance, and on-time delivery.
3. Supplier Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, both domestic and international, to ensure reliable, cost-effective sourcing of materials.
Identify and assess potential new suppliers in the market, ensuring that they meet the company’s quality, cost, and delivery standards.
Develop and implement supplier performance evaluations to ensure adherence to quality requirements and contractual obligations.
4. Understanding of Engineering Components:
Utilize technical expertise to understand engineering drawings, quality specifications, and material requirements for sourcing engineering components, particularly in the context of iron & steel castings, electrical laminations, and other specialized components.
Ensure the sourcing process aligns with the specific technical requirements of the company’s products, allowing for easy and accurate sourcing of materials.
Work closely with the engineering and product development teams to address material sourcing needs for new product designs and capital projects.
5. Cost Optimization and International Sourcing:
Leverage knowledge of the international market to identify opportunities for sourcing materials at more cost-effective rates without compromising on quality.
Stay updated on global market trends, tariffs, and supply chain dynamics to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate potential risks.
Analyze global market conditions to help source raw materials such as steel products at more competitive rates, driving cost reductions and maximizing procurement efficiency.
6. Capital Equipment and Project Sourcing:
Lead the sourcing of capital equipment and machinery for engineering companies, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to technical specifications.
Oversee sourcing operations for large-scale projects, including equipment procurement and material sourcing for capital projects, ensuring the availability of the right materials and tools for manufacturing.
Work closely with senior management to determine capital expenditure budgets and prioritize sourcing activities for critical engineering projects.
7. Quality Control and Compliance:
Ensure that all sourced materials meet the company’s quality standards and specifications, working closely with the quality control and engineering teams to monitor and maintain quality across the supply chain.
Ensure that all sourcing activities are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements, including import/export laws, certifications, and industry standards.
Conduct regular audits of suppliers to ensure they are meeting compliance requirements and industry best practices.
8. Market Intelligence and Industry Trends:
Monitor market conditions for changes in material prices, availability, and quality standards in the engineering components industry, particularly in sectors like iron & steel casting and electrical laminations.
Utilize market intelligence tools and resources to track supplier performance, price trends, and new technological developments in materials and sourcing practices.
9. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with various departments, including production, engineering, and finance, to understand material requirements, production schedules, and budgeting constraints.
Work closely with the logistics and supply chain teams to ensure seamless and timely delivery of sourced materials.
Participate in strategic planning meetings to align sourcing strategies with overall business objectives and ensure material availability for new product development and ongoing operations.
10. Reporting and Performance Analysis:
Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on sourcing activities, supplier performance, cost-saving initiatives, and any challenges faced in sourcing operations.
Analyze sourcing data to identify trends, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for process improvement.
Track sourcing KPIs and ensure continuous improvement in cost efficiency, lead times, and supplier performance.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. (Master's degree is a plus).
Minimum 10-15 years of experience in sourcing engineering components and materials, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Extensive experience sourcing iron & steel castings, electrical laminations, and other engineering materials in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and industrial engineering.
Strong knowledge of raw materials, particularly steel products, and their sourcing requirements.
Expertise in interpreting engineering drawings and understanding technical specifications for various engineering components.
Proven ability to manage complex sourcing operations across multiple locations, including large teams and supplier networks in India and internationally.
Knowledge of international markets and ability to source materials globally at competitive prices.
Experience in sourcing capital equipment, machinery, and other high-value assets for engineering companies.
Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing supplier relationships to achieve cost reductions and secure favorable terms.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Familiarity with procurement software, ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed to visit suppliers and assess sourcing opportunities.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in sourcing in multiple industries, including automotive, heavy engineering, and electrical manufacturing.
Familiarity with quality management systems and procurement standards.
Certifications in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CPSM) or project management.
