Key Accountabilities:
- Provides technical and critical business input and oversight to the design engineering process in phases such as problem definition, conceptual design, preliminary design, detailed design, and design communication.
- Cultivates and maintains awareness of the latest industry practices for mechanical and piping systems for rigs, offshore jackets, topsides, and ships.
- Lead the conceptual and detailed design phases for piping systems, including HVAC, fuel, water, waste, and hydraulic systems, ensuring designs align with project requirements.
- Conduct flow analyses, pressure calculations, and system simulations to validate design effectiveness, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure efficient layout and integration of systems, optimizing for space utilization, ease of maintenance, and operational performance.
- Reviews contract technical documents and develops work scope.
- Prepares technical clarifications and assigns work to engineers and designers.
- Develops a design plan for piping and mechanical system scope.
- Prepares a list of design deliverables in line with the scope of work.
- Prepares a schedule for detailed engineering based on the construction schedule.
- Develops technical specifications and RFQ for various static and rotating equipment such as air compressors, pumps, water makers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, purifiers, anchor winches, HVAC, foam systems, water heaters, etc., for procurement and bidding purposes in accordance with various design requirements, contract technical specifications, relevant industry, and statutory codes.
- Establishes calculations for mechanical and piping systems including compressed air, HVAC, seawater, ballast, bilge, fire main, potable water, engine cooling, exhaust system, vent & sound, emergency bilge, hydraulic piping system, sanitary & deck drain system, etc.
- Ensures department IMS procedures are followed for design development and control. Reviews owner and class comments.
- Resolve site issues and provides solutions to production.
- Responsible for training and development of the piping and mechanical engineering team.
- Identifies and creates potential change orders as per the technical scope of work.
- Advises the head of Marine on technical issues to ensure class compliance and owner comments, ensuring that engineering deliverables are completed as per the agreed project schedule and with acceptable quality.
- Properly delegates work to piping designers and ensures that the engineering KPIs for the Piping Engineering department are achieved, guiding piping designers to develop drawings in accordance with the contract specifications.
- Estimates the man-hours for piping engineering during the bidding stage of the project.
- Monitors the man-hours spent by electrical designers in the development of piping drawings upon the award of the project and evaluates comments from clients to identify potential change orders.
- Ensures that drawings are issued in line with the safety requirements of the yard and classification rules, ensuring that the design meets all the statutory code requirements specified in the contract, displaying safe behavior on-site and in the office.
