Job Description
Position: Safety Officer
Reports To: Manager – EHS
Supervises: Safety Supervisors/Stewards or Jr. Safety Officer
- Hazard Identification: to identify all conditions, methods, or processes having the potential to cause damage or injury to people or property.
- Hazard Evaluation: to evaluate recognized hazards associated with conditions, methods and processes for severity and generate a priority list to control the hazards by generating a gap analysis.
- Hazard Control: Identify feasible controls to eliminate or minimize hazards on site. This may involve proposal of new methods, devices, equipment, or processes that will reduce the level of hazard exposure by an acceptable amount. Work in liaison with operations team to implement the controls. All controls must meet requirements mentioned in Factories Act, 1948 and all Fosbel policies/procedures.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP): Work with operations as a team to develop SOP’s for all jobs carried out at the work site. This includes identification of safety hazards associated with each activity mentioned in the SOP, recommended preventive actions to control the hazards and help implement the controls on job site. Submit final drafts to senior management for review and incorporate the changes as suggested.
- Train safety watchers to the required expectations and assist them in improving their skillset. Monitor their performance on a regular basis and report to senior management.
- Implement Fosbel Leading Indicators of Behavior Based Safety program at the work site with 100% compliance. Use the data obtained from the program to evaluate improvement areas in operations and safety and implement respective corrective actions.
- Safety Audits and Follow up: Conduct on-site safety audits using appropriate auditing techniques and compare existing work methods to corporate and regional standards. Document and report audit observations to site manager and senior safety personnel with follow-up.
- Safety Training/Education: Train all Fosbel and contractual employees on safe and correct working procedures, both those of the customer’s and Fosbel’s in accordance to the company’s annual training program.
- Incident Reporting and Investigation: Report near misses, incidents, injuries and other accidents to the regional safety manager immediately by phone and follow-up with complete written reports within 8 hours of the incident. Conduct extensive investigation to identify root cause of the incident.
- Report to senior management on a regular basis and meet all established deadlines.
- Ensure that the duties defined in the Fosbel Quality Assurance Manual are completed either through direct action or by delegation.
Qualification:
Graduate in Science (B.Sc.) or Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) from a reputed institute.
Professional Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety / Industrial Safety Engineering – PGDIS/ADIS or equivalent
Experience:
2-5 years of hands on experience in managing HSE practices in multiple locations with proven delivery track records.
Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of concepts and principles of Occupational Safety, Risk Management & Mitigation
- Basic understanding of customer processes – Coke Ovens
- Broad understanding of Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics.
- Specialized knowledge and thorough understanding of Statutory Compliances linked to the HSE practices.
